“States” is a members’ exhibit featuring Minh Carrico, Star Rush and Valentina Vitols. The demarcation of existences, the unraveling of a nation and the sovereignty of a union are explored through a video installation and photographic images. The exhibit dates: October 6, 2011, to November 27, 2011.
Minh Carrico is a visual artist who addresses social and political themes through photography, video and mixed media. He is a Professor & Co-Chair of the Visual Art Department at Edmonds Community College. He is a proponent for art education. He is also Co-Founder of IDEA Odyssey, a visual arts collective promoting cultural diversity, community and economic development in the International District.
Star Rush is a documentary and street photographer, writer and educator. She is an advocate of mobile photography. She is a member of IDEA Odyssey, a member of Mobile Photo Group, an international collective of photographers cre- ating images on mobile devices, and a contributing editor to iPhoneography.com. She teaches composition and rhetoric, and literature at Cornish College of the Arts.
Valentina Vitols is a photographer, bilingual writer and instructor. She owns her photography practice in Seattle, Valen- tina Vitols Studio. Valentina works for a Seattle-based travel company, Shutter Tours and for Aver School, a non-profit organization teaching visual arts to orphans in Mexico. She has worked as a freelance curator for the Mission Arts and Performance Project (MAPP) in San Francisco, where she has shown her photography as well. Valentina holds an MFA in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design and has traveled extensively as a photographer.
